In June 2021, the City Council of the City of Sunset Valley adopted Short-term Rental (STR) Registration regulations. STRs are allowed within the Single-family Residential Districts of the City of Sunset Valley. The Ordinance adopted by City Council is effective October 1, 2022. Registrations are effective for two (2) years, and are approved administratively.
The Registration Fee for Short-term Rentals is $200 (bi-annual).

You will need the following to complete the STR Registration Form:
Property Owner or Registrant Information
- Name
- Address
- Phone Number
- Email Address
- Trade Name (if applicable)
Permission from the Property Owner, if the Registrant does not own the property. The property owner must provide their name, address, phone number, email address and trade name along with the permission for the registrant to operate the STR.
Local Emergency Contact Information

Per Ordinance, a local emergency contact is needed, and must be different than the registrant if the registrant will be offsite and/or out of town.
Home/Property Information
How many buildings on the property will function as an STR? e.g. primary residence and one guest house
How many bedrooms are within buildings that will function as an STR? This is for determining the maximum number of occupants allowed per the Texas Property Code, Section 92.010
You will need to upload a sketch floor plan of the buildings that will function as an STR with room layout.
You will need to upload a sketch of the property indicating maximum number of vehicles that can be legally parked on the property, without encroaching onto street, sidewalks, or alleys; other public rights-of-way or public property.
You will need to upload a copy of the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts’ Form AP-102 (Hotel Occupancy Tax questionnaire)
