The City has over 270 acres of publicly accessible greenspaces and conservation areas. The City maintains the open spaces and performs necessary wildlife management activities. The Public Works Department also maintains firebreaks in these areas. There are over 10 miles of trails throughout the City. The City is also connected with the Regional Violet Crown Trail System.
The City maintains three playground areas: Valley Creek Park, City Hall Nature Play Area, and the Recreational Venue by the Homestead Shopping Center. The Public Works Department also maintains over 10 water quality ponds and stormwater facilities. The Public Works Department maintains ditches and creek beds to maintain proper drainage around the City.
The City also has a long history of urban forestry programs and has been a Tree City USA for over 25 years. From Oak Wilt Management to community habitat programs, the Public Works Department offers a variety of programs to residents of Sunset Valley.
