Commend an Officer

Sunset Valley Police Officers take great pride in being recognized by members of the public when they have exceeded expectations in the performance of their duties. Citizen commendations let officers know that their efforts are appreciated. If you would like to let us know about the outstanding service that an officer provided you may write a letter to the Chief of Police at 3207 Jones Road, Sunset Valley, TX 78745 or call 512-892-1384. Remember to let us know: time, date, location, officer name, and a brief description of the incident.

Complaints

We hope that every contact with an officer exceeds your expectations. However, if you feel that an officer did not perform in a satisfactory manner then you should feel free to make a complaint. In order to file a complaint against a police department employee you should call 512-892-1384 and request to speak with a supervisor at the Sunset Valley Police Department. A supervisor will then either handle the complaint over the phone or provide you with a complaint form and any other information that you need to initiate the complaint. Once received, the complaint will be investigated and you will be notified of the outcome. Complaints will normally be resolved within 10 days.

Racial Profiling Complaints

Sunset Valley Police Department employees are prohibited from engaging in activities that are discriminatory or indicative of the practice of bias-based policing (racial profiling). Personnel will focus on the behavior of individuals when taking police action rather than solely on a subject's race, ethnic background, gender, sexual orientation, religion, economic status, age, cultural group, or any other group status. Any person who feels that they have been targeted by a Sunset Valley Police Department Officer based on the above factors should file a complaint by mail, telephone, email, or in person. The complaint will be thoroughly investigated and reviewed by the Chief of Police. The person filing the complaint will be notified of the outcome of the investigation. Complete details regarding how to file a complaint can found in brochures both at City Hall and Sunset Valley Police Department.
