All trees with a diameter greater than 10 inches are protected by city ordinance.  In order to remove a protected tree, a tree removal permit must be obtained.  Please visit our permitting portal to start the tree removal process. A link to a paper copy of the permit is below.

From Oak Wilt to Hypoxylon Canker, many diseases threaten the health of the trees in your yard.  The City may be able to assist residents with controlling these diseases or offer information on where to find help.  

Oak Wilt Assistance Program

Sunset Valley is home to a champion Bigelow Oak (Quercus durandii).  There are also several other noteworthy trees in Sunset Valley.  If you have a tree or group of trees in your yard that you suspect may be the largest or oldest of its species, or has historical significance please contact Public Works and Environmental Services to nominate the tree for Champion status.
