STORAGE YARD
The new and improved Storage Yard will reopen in May 13th. Below are the Rules for the Storage Yard.
STORAGE YARD RULES AND REGULATIONS
Hours of Operation: Daily 7:00 am - 7:00 pm
- STORAGE YARD IS FOR SUNSET VALLEY RESIDENT USE ONLY
- All items brought to the storage yard for disposal must originate within the Sunset Valley City Limits.
- Key card access is daily 7 am – 7 pm
- Key Cards are not to be distributed to non-residents, including contractors; residents must accompany contractors to the Storage Yard for access.
- One Key Card per residence
- Replacement Key Cards (if lost or stolen) will cost $12.
- HAZARDOUS MATERIAL OF ANY KIND IS FORBIDDEN.
- It is a violation to dispose of waste not in accordance with these rules and regulations.
‐LOAD LIMITS-
- Residential Users are limited to 24 days of Storage Yard access per calendar year.
‐BULK ITEM DUMPSTER‐
- Place all items inside the dumpster. If you require assistance, please schedule assistance from the Public Works Department 24 hours prior to arrival.
- Disposal of waste originating from commercial activities, including, without limitation, lot clearing, residential or commercial construction, residential or commercial demolition, or rental property remediation is prohibited.
- NO ITEMS THAT CONTAIN HAZARDOUS WASTE SUCH AS REFRIGERATORS, FREEZERS, AND AIR CONDITIONERS.NO TIRES, ELECTRONICS, CONCRETE, STONE, HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE or METAL.
- Allowed Items: Furniture including mattresses, wood without nails, doors, toilets, and other non-putrescible waste.
‐METAL-
- All Items placed in the metal recycling dumpster must be composed of all metal components.
- No plastic or fiberglass should be placed in this dumpster.
‐BRUSH-
- NOTHING SHOULD BE PLACED IN THIS PILE BUT BRUSH
- Brush, including leaves and twigs, may be placed in brown paper bags
- No Plastic bags, concrete, wire fencing, painted or treated lumber, etc.
- No invasive clippings such as cactus, Johnson grass, or weeds.
‐HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE and ELECTRONICS RECYCLING‐
Household hazardous waste and electronics disposal is not permitted. Contact Austin Resource Recovery at 512-974-4343 for information on proper disposal of these items. Austin Resource Recovery is located at 2514 Business Center Drive.
-ENFORCEMENT-
The Public Works Director or their designee will enforce the rules of the City’s Storage Yard. Residents that are found to be in violation of the rules may be subject to the following:
- 1st Violation – warning only
- 2nd Violation – 30-day suspension of storage yard access
- 3rd Violation – one-year suspension of storage yard access
- Repeated violations may result in permanent loss of storage yard access.
- Disposing of waste in violation of these rules and regulations may result in criminal prosecution for illegal dumping.
Appeals of enforcement may be made to the Mayor. All appeals determined by the Mayor are final.

TDS Customer Service
For Trash, Recycling or Greenwaste information, including pick-up and collections, additional carts, service requests or any other requests, please contact the TDS Customer Care team at (800) 375-8375.
Trash
Trash is removed every week on Wednesday. Trash should be placed in the can with the black lid.
Recycling
Single stream recycling is provided every week. Recycled material is limited to the contents of the 96 gallon cart plus (1) one bundle of cardboard. Cardboard should be flattened and tied in bundles. Recycling is available for green, brown, clear glass; plastics 1-7 (except #6 – Styrofoam); aluminum, tin, and steel cans; paper products: newsprint, cardboard, boxboard, junk mail, magazines, and office paper. Recycling should be placed in the can with the beige lid.
Curbside Green Waste Collection
Each resident has one(1) 96 gallon cart for green waste material one (1) time every-other-week. Green waste collection is limited to the contents of the cart plus up to six (6) cubic yards of brush or yard waste in paper sacks. Brush must be cut into four (4) foot lengths and placed with cut ends facing the curb. Materials included in this green waste program are: yard waste, grass clippings, & leaves; brush & tree limbs; soiled paper goods – paper cups, paper plates, napkins, paper towels, and pizza boxes, etc. Green waste should be placed in the can with the green lid.
Prohibited Items
Paint, motor oil, gasoline, tires, hazardous item, mixtures, chemical compounds, etc.
Bulk Item Disposal
Residents can schedule bulk item disposal with Texas Disposal Systems up to two times per year. Residents can contact Texas Disposal at (800) 375-8375 or email customercare@texasdisposal.com to schedule the pick up. Each resident is allotted two (2) curbside bulky or brush collections per year. Each collection will be no more than three(3) cubic yards per residential unit. Yard waste must be bundled and tied and cut into four (4) foot lengths, not to exceed 35 pounds per bundle. Limbs within the bundle must be no more than four (4) inches in diameter. Refrigerators, freezers, etc. must be certified where applicable as Freon- free for collection.
Tire Recycling
If a tire is found it can be dropped off at the Storage Yard to be recycled.

Storage Yard
The Storage Yard is accessible to resident to dispose of materials such as brush, metal, tires, and other refuse. The Storage Yard is accessible from dawn to dusk by residents. The Storage Yard may be closed periodically due to wet conditions. If it has rained, please contact the Public Works Department at (512)-891-9103 prior to coming to the storage yard to check the status. Resident access cards may be obtained at the Public Works Building. Contractors working for residents may sign in during regular business hours Monday-Friday. Hazardous Waste
All household hazardous waste must be taken to the Austin/Travis County Household Hazardous Waste Facility. More information can be found at www.austintexas.gov/hhw.
Electronics and Appliances
Many electronics and appliances contain lead, freon, or other chemicals that should not go to landfills. These items can be recycled. Refrigerators and Freezers must have the freon removed before they can be disposed. Televisions, DVD players, and computers can be recycled by contacting a local electronic recycling company listed below. Some items will have fees for recycling.
