Drought in Central Texas

Central Texas experiences frequent periods of drought.  As more people move to the area, the demand on a very finite resource also increases.  Our current drought condition is considered to be extreme. We need everyone to help out in conserving water.

STAGE 2 WATER RESTRICTIONS FOR SUNSET VALLEY CUSTOMERS

Residential Restrictions

Hose End Sprinklers - One Day Per Week
Midnight to 10 a.m. or 7 p.m. to midnight

 Odd-numbered addresses Saturday 
 Even-numbered addresses  Sunday

 Automatic Irrigation -One Day Per Week
Midnight to 5 a.m. or 7 p.m. to midnight

 Odd-numbered addresses  Wednesday
 Even-numbered addresses  Thursday

 

 Commercial/Multi-family
 Hose-end Sprinklers - one day per week
Midnight to 10 a.m. and/or 7 p.m. to midnight
 Even-numbered addresses Tuesday 
 Odd-numbered addresses  Friday
 Automatic Irrigation - one day per week
Midnight to 5 a.m. and/or 7 p.m. to midnight
 Even-numbered addresses  Tuesday
 Odd-numbered addresses  Friday

 

 Public School System

Hose-end Sprinklers - one day per week -
Midnight to 10 a.m. and/or 7 p.m. to midnight

 All Addresses  Monday

 Automatic Irrigation - one day per week
Midnight to 8 a.m. and/or 7 p.m. to midnight

 All Addresses  Monday

 

  • Wasting water is prohibited.
    • Sprinklers/leaks must be fixed promptly. 
  • Washing vehicles at home is permitted with a bucket.
  • Restaurants may not serve water unless requested by a customer.
  • Patio misters at commercial properties (including restaurants and bars) may only operate between 4 p.m. and midnight.

Enforcement

Individuals found in violation of these restrictions may be punished by a fine up to $2,000.  

STAGE 3-CRITICAL DROUGHT RESTRICTIONS FOR WELL USERS

The Edward's Aquifer is at critical levels.  It is only about 1.5 feet above exceptional drought stage.  The following are prohibited for all well users:

  • Automatic Irrigation Systems
  • Hose End Sprinklers
  • Car Washing
  • Filling or re-filling of Pools
  • Non-Essential Use (fountains, etc.)

Watering by handheld hose on designated watering days before 10 a.m. or after 7 p.m. is allowed.  Please visit the Barton Springs Edwards Aquifer Conservation District for more information.  Penalties are between $500-1,000 during critical drought stage.
